Luke's Bio

Luke Kirley comes from a long line of plumbers. Maybe that explains why he plays the trombone. Anyway, Luke started his musical education at Sir Francis Drake High School in Marin County. He soon began studying privately with trombonist extraordinaire John Gove. It being the 90’s and all, Luke was roped into a Ska band which he enjoyed very much but wished the other members of the band were as good at getting gigs as they were at getting girls. After high school, Luke attended the University of California, Santa Cruz where he studied jazz with pianist Smith Dobson and trumpeter Ray Brown and classical trombone with Tom Hornig and Wayne Solomon. It was in Santa Cruz that Luke joined Carne Cruda. With 4 European tours and 2 albums under their belt, Carne Cruda is still going strong. Luke is actively gigging throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area on both trombone and sousaphone. He lives with his beautiful wife, Polly, and their lovely dog, Harvey, in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland, CA.
